Front Yard Deck Installation Milwaukee for Eco Harmony

Building a Custom Front Yard Deck Installation in Milwaukee

When Eco Harmony reached out to Chisel and Vine, they needed help creating a new front entry deck for a homeowner in Milwaukee. They asked if we had experience building decks in the city, if we could recommend a good design for a front yard deck, and if we could get it done before their landscaping team started work. We let them know that we could absolutely handle the project and coordinate it smoothly, so the landscaping would not be disrupted later.

Planning and Designing the Deck

During our first site visit, we saw right away that this build would need careful planning. The existing setup included a concrete stoop with stairs leading down to the sidewalk, plus a retaining wall and sidewalk that would need to come out before any work could start. We also discovered a challenge: one of the helical pier deck foundations would be placed directly over the homeowner’s main water line, leaving almost no room for error.

To avoid any surprises, we collaborated with the City of Milwaukee and Goliatech, who utilized a ground scanning machine to identify any potential obstacles that might interfere with the piers. In the end, we hand-dug one footing and used a traditional concrete footing for added safety.

Building the Front Porch Deck

Once the old stoop and sidewalk were removed, we laid out the footprint for the front yard deck installation Milwaukee homeowners often want for both curb appeal and function. The base consisted of two helical piers, one conventional concrete footing, and two additional concrete footings for the stairs leading down to the front walk.

Our crew framed the deck and stairs with pressure-treated lumber. For the finish, we used Azek TimberTech decking, fascia, risers, skirting, and ConceaLoc fasteners. We also added Harmony black baluster railings for a clean, modern touch. When the homeowners saw the deck complete, they decided they wanted the skirting extended all the way to the ground. We came back another day and finished that last detail.

A Smooth Build and Lasting Result

From start to finish, this front porch deck took about three days. We did the footings on a Saturday, framed and installed the decking in one day, and returned later to wrap up the skirting. Because of our partnership with Eco Harmony, the landscaping team can now come in and install new plants and stonework without worrying about construction damaging the yard afterward.
