A Wrap-Around Deck Installation in Bayview with Extra Space and Style

Palladium Patios reached out to Chisel and Vine looking for a partner to tackle a large wrap-around deck installation in Bayview. They needed a builder with carpentry experience to rebuild a large deck, along with a pergola and a gable structure, all while maintaining the same footprint as the original design.
When we first visited the home, we found a massive deck that included a built-in jungle gym and an unusual structural challenge. Part of the home’s bump-out was supported by the deck underneath it, rather than being structurally independent. We made it our first priority to properly support the bump out to protect the house before starting any new construction.

Building a Strong, Functional Wrap-Around Deck

Once the bump-out was secured, we got to work on the new wrap-around deck installation. The finished deck covers about 531 square feet, laid out in two connected rectangles to wrap along two sides of the home. The entire frame and decking were built with pressure-treated lumber for durability and strength. We set the foundation with diamond pier footings, which hold up well against Wisconsin weather.

This new deck features three separate staircases, providing easy access to the sidewalk, side yard, and backyard. We installed guard rails around the full perimeter and along both sides of each staircase, using TimberTech Impressions railing, which was supplied by Palladium Patios for a clean and modern look.

The north-side pergola was rebuilt with larger dimensional lumber, giving it a sturdier frame and a fresh appearance. We also reconstructed the gable pergola over the eastern stairs, matching the original style but improving on its structure and code compliance. To make sure the steps were safe and up to code, we extended the eastern staircase by one step and removed an awkward corner step, creating an easy zero-entry from the screen door to the deck.
